Taiwan Buddhist Tzu-Chi Foundation Malaysia 12 Tzu Chi’s Footprints in 100 Countries Mission of Charity • Since 1966, Tzu Chi has been carrying out its charity work. • In the 2009 Taiwan Typhoon Morakot disaster relief, Tzu Chi mobilized more than 150,000 man-days and built 949 Tzu Chi permanent homes for the victims. • In Gansu Province of China, frequent droughts resulted in severe water shortages. Tzu Chi provided assistance to the farmers who were poor; constructed a Tzu Chi Village and built water cellars to address the water crisis. Mission of Medicine • Since 1986, Tzu Chi set up six hospitals in Taiwan. • In September 2012, Tzu Chi set up a “Health Promotion Centre” in Suzhou, China. • Medical clinics, free clinics and dialysis centres were also set up inUSA, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines. Mission of Education • Since 1989, Tzu Chi has embarked on an educational system that emphasizes holistic learning. It has set up schools from kindergarten to graduate school in Taiwan. • Tzu Chi kindergartens and/ or academies (emphasizing on humanities) were set up in USA, Malaysia, Indonesia and other countries. • Tzu Chi Continuing Education Centres were set up to promote lifelong learning. • Helped to build 225 schools in 16 countries.
