Great Love 27 Preventive Medical Care In view of an aging society and the transformation of disease patterns, six Tzu Chi Hospitals in Taiwan successively established the Preventive Medical Centre since 2009. The Centres provide professional and full health check-ups, as well as preventive medical services to achieve the target of “prevention is better than cure”. For the same reason, the first overseas Tzu Chi Health Promotion Centre was established in Suzhou, China in September 2012 to provide comprehensive medical check-up services to the locals. Bone Marrow Donation Tzu Chi set up its Marrow Donor Registry on October 29, 1993. It was renamed to “Tzu Chi Stem Cells Centre” in April 2002. It became the global Chinese and Asia’s biggest Immunity Gene Laboratory and the world’s third largest bone marrow data bank. In October 2010, the Centre was awarded certification for its professional service quality by the World Marrow Donor Association (WMDA). As at December 2018, the Centre had recorded a total number of 430,277 voluntary donors’ data; 5,212 cases of stem cell donation in 31 countries; and 106 cases of Cord Blood Transplant in over 11 countries.
