Great Love 37 People-oriented Medical Assistance Initially Tzu Chi only offered emergency relief supplies, medical outreach and medical subsidies to refugees. Subsequently, some of the Buddhist Tzu-Chi Free Clinics extended their services, such as medical consultation, dental care, family planning and HIV tests to refugees. Providing the Rights to Education Since 2007, UNHCR Tzu-Chi Education Centres were set up to provide education especially to the Rohingya children, who are generally refused entry into schools in Malaysia. The children are taught English, Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese, Mathematics and Science. In addition, humanistic and moral classes are provided by Tzu Chi volunteers on a monthly basis. In 2004, amedical referral of a refugee brought about the collaboration resulting in the signing of an MoU between Tzu Chi KL & Selangor and UNHCR in 2005. Subsequently, another MoU on the enhancement of mutual cooperation on education and medical assistance was signed in 2007. As at December 2018, Tzu Chi has rendered 190,000 medical treatments to refugees and provided 3,465 education enrolments to refugee children. In the spirit of humanitarianism, Tzu Chi and UNHCR have worked closely to provide assistance to refugees in Malaysia.
