Tzu Chi Undergraduate Scholarship Programme

Supporting students in need to pursue higher education and grow with compassion and humanistic values
About the Programme
 
In 2026, Tabung Kebajikan dan Pendidikan Yayasan Taiwan Buddhist Tzu-Chi Malaysia and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, UTAR, collaborate to introduce the Tzu Chi Undergraduate Scholarship Programme.
The programme aims to support deserving UTAR students from financially disadvantaged, low-income or B40 family backgrounds by reducing their education-related financial burden and enabling them to complete their undergraduate studies.
Through financial assistance, Tzu Chi humanistic activities, volunteer service, learning reflections and continuous care, the programme hopes to nurture young talents with professional knowledge, humanistic values and social responsibility.

Scholarship Availability
 
The programme offers limited scholarship opportunities for eligible UTAR students.
 
The scholarship category and allocation shall be subject to the application outcome, assessment process and final approval by the Foundation.
Scholarship Categories
  • This category is intended for students pursuing selected fields of study that are aligned with the Foundation’s talent-nurturing direction.
    Coverage may include:
    • Tuition fees
    • Approved academic-related fees
    • Living allowance, subject to assessment and approval
     
    Selected fields of study may include, but are not limited to:
    • Education
    • Early Childhood Education
    • Psychology
    • Information and Mass Communication
    • Accounting 
    • Other selected programmes approved by the Foundation and UTAR
     
    Students under this category are required to fulfil the relevant nurturing, internship, volunteer service and post-graduation service / bonding requirements as stipulated in the individual scholarship agreement.
  • This category supports students who have applied for other education loans, scholarships, bursaries or relevant financial assistance but still require additional support to cover the remaining tuition fee gap.
     
    Coverage may include:
    • Partial tuition fee assistance
    • Living allowance is not included
    • Open to all fields of study, subject to eligibility and final approval
Eligibility Criteria
 
Applicants must fulfil the following basic requirements:
  • Malaysian citizen
  • Full-time undergraduate student of UTAR, or applicant who has received an offer to pursue undergraduate studies at UTAR
  • From financially disadvantaged, low-income or B40 family background
  • Applicants from single-parent families, orphaned backgrounds, OKU status or other financially needy circumstances may be considered
  • Meet UTAR’s entry and relevant academic requirements
  • Willing to participate in community service and Tzu Chi’s nurturing, care and progress reporting mechanism
Commitment of Sponsored Students
 
Successful applicants are required to:
  • Submit regular learning reflections or academic progress reports
  • Receive continuous guidance and care from assigned Tzu Chi mentors / volunteers
  • Participate in Tzu Chi or UTAR humanistic, volunteer or community service activities
  • Maintain the required CGPA according to the scholarship category
  • Full sponsorship students are required to fulfil the relevant internship and post-graduation service / bonding requirements

Important Notes
  • All applications are subject to review by UTAR and the Foundation.
  • Meeting the minimum eligibility criteria does not guarantee the award of the scholarship.
  • The final selection, scholarship amount, sponsorship period and scholarship category shall be subject to final approval by the Foundation and the individual scholarship agreement.
  • Applicants must ensure that all information submitted is true, complete and accurate.
  • Applicants who are receiving or applying for other scholarships, education loans or financial assistance must declare such information during application.
